The sales team at the Brisbane Convention Centre is finalising proposals for 14 new events following a successful visit to AIME (AsiaPacific Incentives & Meetings Expo) in Melbourne earlier this month.

AIME is the premier exhibition in the Southern Hemisphere for the meetings and incentives industry, with more than 850 exhibitors from 50 countries.

The events include an international convention for 1,000 delegates, four national conventions, sales workshops, seminars, trade shows, company briefings and gala dinners.

The Centre's International team is also organising a site inspection for one of Europe's leading Professional Conference Organisers with a view to bringing international meetings to Brisbane, as a result of their work at AIME.

The Brisbane Convention Centre has always had strong representation at AIME. Centre General Manager, Robert O'Keeffe who attended the event said the results were significant in terms of both quality and revenue and come at a time when the Centre is experiencing record business.

Mr O'Keeffe said that in the first few months of the calendar year, four major international conventions and 17 national conventions were confirmed for the Centre, representing an economic benefit of an estimated $30 million to the state's economy.

The Centre has recently boosted its sales and marketing teams, including the creation of a specialist international convention bidding position - Manager, International Convention Bidding - to maximise the opportunities in the current market conditions and to consolidate its position as a global leader in the international meetings and events industry.
