Carole Moody, president of this city's convention commission since May 2002, has resigned her position effective March 1 of next year.

Moody, who has served nearly 30 years with the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission, cited personal reasons for her resignation, according to commission spokeswoman Donna Andrews.

In a statement, Moody said, "It feels right to leave now when convention and leisure business is on the upswing, downtown has a new face, and more meeting and convention planners and leisure visitors are taking notice of the new St. Louis."

Despite an increase in group bookings since Moody assumed the commission's top staff post, group sales have apparently lagged projected targets.

The commission booked slightly more than half its projected goal of 800,000 group room nights in 2004, according to a recent marketing report cited in a St. Louis Post-Dispatch article about Moody's resignation.

The commission booked 348,375 group room nights in fiscal year 2002 and 415,134 group room nights in fiscal year 2005, a 19-percent increase, according to commission figures.

A native of St. Louis, Moody joined the commission in 1976 as assistant to the executive director. She later served as assistant director of convention sales, vice president of tourism, and senior vice president of marketing.

The commission plans a nationwide search for Moody's successor.
