The Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa (IIA-SA) Board of Directors has selected the Sandton Convention Centre as its preferred bidding partner for the prestigious three day Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) International Conference in June 2007.

The IIA International Conference is the premier annual event for internal auditors worldwide and is anticipated to attract between 2 500 and 3 000 delegates in 2007.

The IIA-SA is an affiliate of the international body IIA Inc, the headquarters of which is based in Florida, USA. The IIA Inc has more than 75 000 members in 120 countries throughout the world.

Should the South African bid be successful, it will be the first time that the IIA International Conference will be hosted in Africa. According to Zach le Roux, Vice President: Conferences of the IIA-SA, the IIA-SA has a vibrant and growing membership and conference industry due to global interests in corporate governance, risk management and control issues.

Deon Viljoen, executive director of the Sandton Convention Centre says the Centre is extremely proud to be part of the South Africa bid and will embark on a collaborative and partnership approach with the IIA-SA to ensure the success of the bid.

“The recent World Summit was a perfect opportunity to showcase our world class facilities and infrastructure to the rest of the world and I am confident that this success has placed South Africa firmly in the international spotlight as an ideal destination for international conferences,” said Viljoen.

The International Conference Committee will be considering all bids for the IIA International Conference in 2007 in December this year. South Africa will be competing against very strong opponents such as the Netherlands.
