South Africa Tourism’s new-look convention bureau will be officially launched at Indaba, the nation’s travel show in May.

Rick Taylor, former head of the Cape Town Convention Bureau, told a press conference in Melbourne that there would be a fresh approach to meetings marketing from his new bureau and he promised “new words and new language to address our core markets”.

He also said the emphasis would move away from a focus on the incentive business and move towards the international association congress market and corporate meetings markets. He said he wanted greater exposure for the South African product quoting Benjamin Franklin: “What is the point of a sundial in the shade?”

He added: “We aren't yet the promised land, but we are a land of tremendous promise.”
