Conferon Global Services (CGS), the US's largest meeting management and event services company, announces the promotion of Andy Smith to Vice President, Independent Agent Channel.

Smith has been a Conferon Sales Network (CSN) Regional Director since 2002. He replaces Rick Binford, who is now Chief Marketing Officer at CGS.

“Andy not only brings a unique balance of experience to this position but also a passion for taking this important area of CGS to new heights. Andy understands the unique needs of the independent channel and has the forward thinking, strategic mindset and sales energy that will inspire others to success,” states Brad Weaber, Executive Vice President and Chief Customer Officer at CGS.

The CSN has seen significant growth during Smith’s time as a Regional Director, expanding from 12 independent agents to 53 agents, Weaber says. In 2005, under Smith's guidance, agents in the Central Region generated more than $4.2 million in CGS Revenue for 2006 and beyond.

Smith says he is excited about his new position and plans to expand on the existing foundation of the CGS Independent Agent Channel.

“The initial focus is to help each of these entrepreneurs harness the resources and capabilities of CGS even faster so the team can become more self-sufficient in shorter time frame,” Smith says. “These efforts will allow us to continue to attract the talented individuals that can excel given this type of opportunity.”

Smith will continue to be located in his virtual office in Nashville, Tennessee. Geri Bommarito, CSN Sales Director Western Region and Scott Durkin, CSN Sales Director Eastern Region, will report to Smith. Smith will report to Weaber.

Prior to joining CGS, Smith held many sales and sales leadership positions including senior positions with Navigant International/Belle Meade Travel and First Discount Travel. He also owned his own group tour company specializing in inbound motorcoach tours into Nashville, Memphis, and the Smoky Mountains.

Smith is a former member of Tennessee Business Travel Association.
