The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre (QEIICC) has won Innovation in Business Tourism, the new award which London Tourist Board and Convention Bureau (LTB) has run to recognise the importance of the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions sector.

The ‘Innovation in Business Tourism’ category was part of the annual London Tourism Awards that celebrate excellence across the industry.

Competition on the shortlist was fierce, with the Royal Horticultural Halls and Wellington Arch also being judged. All three venues were found to be professionally managed and displaying interest in and responding to the market place.

The QEIICC was successful because of its clear dedication to improving its product offer through continuing innovation, as a direct response to customer needs. Its investment in the installation of delegate communication technology was relatively modest but appears to have had maximum impact.

The centre has grown the conference market for London, in particular by attracting new international business. Mady Keup, head of London Convention Bureau, said: “It was very encouraging to see the high standard of entries. This category is a great opportunity to reward the value of the business tourism industry to London and I’m delighted that the QEIICC won.”

The awards ceremony took place on 20 August at the Landmark London, last year’s winner of the large hotel category.
