As construction on the Puerto Rico Convention Center nears completion for a November 2005 opening, WestVille Enterprises, Inc. has signed a five-year contract to host the Caribbean Gaming & Hospitality Conference (CGHC) at the Center, beginning in 2006.

The five year contract is expected to draw more than 10,000 attendees between 2006 and 2010 with an anticipated economic impact of $1.9 million for the Island.

The 2006 conference at the Puerto Rico Convention Center will take place from June 11-16 and is expected to attract 1,500 gaming and hospitality managers operating in or planning to expand into the Caribbean and Latin America regions.

This will be the eighth annual Caribbean Gaming & Hospitality Conference (CGHC) and is the only event of its kind for gaming and hospitality operators in the Caribbean, as well as Central and South America.

“With 19 operating casinos, and two more scheduled to open this year, Puerto Rico’s gaming industry is vibrant.  Puerto Rico’s convention and conference suppliers and vendors provide an excellent infrastructure necessary to host our group,” stated Bruce R. Smith, President, WestVille Enterprises, Inc., the organization which produces the CGHC.

“We’ve held our program in Puerto Rico at the Caribe Hilton for the past several years and as our conference and business expo attendance continues to increase, the Puerto Rico Convention Center affords a great opportunity to grow intelligently.” Westville Enterprises is holding discussions with several casino hotels to be the headquarters hotel for the conference with its anticipated 1,070 room nights in 2006.

Gaming in Puerto Rico is just one of many popular activities for visitors and conventioneers. Casinos in Puerto Rico offer gaming tables for both novices and high-rollers, with Caribbean stud poker, blackjack, roulette and craps at most properties with casinos, along with ample slot machines.  According to the Travel Industry of America (TIA), gaming is a common activity on many American trips and is growing in popularity.  Currently, trips that include gaming account for eight percent of all U.S. travel, up nearly 30 percent from a decade earlier.

“Upon its opening, the Puerto Rico Convention Center will be the largest meeting facility of its type in the Caribbean.  The selection of Puerto Rico and the new Convention Center as the multi-year host destination for the Caribbean Gaming & Hospitality Conference and tradeshow is an excellent example of how Puerto Rico is emerging as a premier meetings destination,” stated Ana María Viscasillas, president & CEO, Puerto Rico Convention Bureau.

“From the ease of working with a U.S. destination, to leveraging Puerto Rico’s proximity to Central and Latin America to attract attendees outside of the region and feeling secure about the level and quality of services and amenities available to attendees, we’re proud to play a role in the success of this growing show.”

This years’ Caribbean Gaming & Hospitality Conference was held at the Caribe Hilton from June 14-15, 2005 and included a comprehensive schedule of educational seminars, roundtable discussions with simultaneous English-Spanish translation, along with product and service presentations.
