These new awards recognise excellence in events (meetings, incentives, special events, etc.) in Spain and will be presented in July in a gala event, bringing together all the professionals from the sector. This initiative represents a key step in the Spanish event sector and has already the support of important entities in the sector such as EIBTM (the global meetings and incentive exhibition in Europe and a Gold sponsor of the awards), official endorsement of MPI (the largest association of meeting planners in the world), the Spain Convention Bureau and the Club de Marketing de Barcelona, among others. The Awards, Premios eventoplus, have 12 categories; six to be awarded for various types of events and five to be awarded to various key components of an event such as decoration, technical setup, etc., in addition to a “Grand Jury Award”. The entries must be submitted before the 31^st of May 2006. The jury consists of professionals from the sector, with the majority being event managers in large companies and also representatives from institutions of the industry. The award presentation gala will be held on the 13^th of July in Barcelona, and the next award presentations would be alternated between Barcelona and Madrid. “Every important industry has their own awards. The Spanish event sector will now communicate the best events of the year through this initiative, in addition to strengthening creativity and professionalism in events. These Awards and their presentation will be a key moment of the year and a meeting point for everyone in the event sector. The strong support from the institutions of the sector is the first indicator of the importance of these ‘Premios eventoplus’ Awards,”, comments Lynn Wong, co-Director of eventoplus and person in charge of the Awards.
