J.D. Andrews, Reint Reinders, and Peter Shure will be honored at the 2006 Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) Education Foundation Dinner Celebrating Professional Achievement, Andrews is chairman of the Council for Professional Recognition and is this year’s meeting professional honoree. Reinders is president & CEO of the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau and is this year’s supplier partner honoree. Shure is director of strategic marketing for Conferon and is this year’s educator honoree. “Each of these three honorees is a giant in our industry,” explained PCMA Education Foundation Director Dr. J.D. Andrews, RMP, CEP, CMC, serves on numerous national and international boards and is the founder of the Council for Professional Recognition in He has been heavily involved in the hospitality industry for more than 40 years and also in the field of education with a focus on developing techniques for teaching educators from around the world. In that venue he has directed educational films and co-authored books. Numerous professionals seek his unique and visionary insights to provoke their thinking as they make their decisions about development, adaptation, and constructive change within a wide variety of disciplines. Reinders has spent 15 years with the San Diego CVB and is planning to retire in 2006. He previously spent 21 years with Marriott Corporation. Reinders is a well-known leader in the hospitality community, serving six years on the Destination Marketing Association International Board of Directors, including one year as secretary-treasurer of DMAI. He also chaired the search committee that recruited DMAI President & CEO Michael Gehrisch, as well as the recent branding campaign that renamed DMAI. Reinders is also one of the founders of the San Diego State School of Hospitality, which presented him with a Hall of Fame award. He has also received several industry honors, including being named as one of the “25 Most Influential People in the Meetings Industry” by Meeting News a few years ago. He received the 1983 General Manager of the Year Award from the Marriott Corporation and the San Diego County Hotel-Motel Association's 1990 Hotel Person of the Year Award. Shure has had a prominent presence in the meetings industry throughout his career. He was the founding editor-in-chief of Meeting News, the program chairman of Meeting World, and the associate publisher of Convene, PCMA’s magazine. He also served as the PCMA senior vice president of marketing and member relations, and joined Conferon in 2004 following 13 years at PCMA. Shure was also elected to the Convention Industry Council Hall of Leaders, and was associate producer of the PBS documentary "The Invisible Industry" and author of the Convention Industry Council's Economic Impact Study presented at the White House Conference on Travel and Tourism in 1995.
