The PCMA Education Foundation has awarded $417,000 in grants to a range of meetings industry research and education projects to advance the body of knowledge and best practices in the profession. The awards go far beyond the level of industry grants given at any previous time in the history of the PCMA Education Foundation and represent a renewed commitment to supporting the profession. “Nothing is more important than investing in the future of our profession,” says PCMA Education Foundation Chairman Sheila Stampfli. “These grants will benefit all of us across the entire meetings industry through the wide-ranging programs they will support. We thank everyone in the industry who has given to the PCMA Education Foundation during the past year to make these grants possible.” The grants include: $75,000 to support the creation and implementation of industry-wide accepted practices through the Convention Industry Council Accepted Practices Exchange (APEX) program. $70,200 to support a new faculty internship program to allow college and university faculty to gain practical meeting planning experience. The program will be conducted in conjunction with an organization represented by a PCMA member. $50,000 to support the revision of the Professional Meeting Management textbook, which is used in training for the CMP designation and by college and university faculty who teach meeting industry courses. $70,000 to support a new Integrated Learning System for Professional Meeting Management, which will include teaching aids and visual aids for the revised Professional Meeting Management textbook. $63,730 to fund a 2005 PCMA Chapter Leadership Retreat to provide high-level education and programming to chapter leaders to be shared with chapter members. $39,000 to support the development and implementation of a CEO & Senior Marketing Executives Summit to explore potential strategic alliances between CVBs and associations. $30,000 to integrate past PCMA Industry Issue Forum sessions into DVD format for distribution to all PCMA chapters. $13,500 for a graduate research assistant at the University of Delaware - College of Human Services, Education & Public Policy to support the research of supplier core competencies, the development of self-assessment tools for planners and suppliers, and qualitative research and development of web-based tools for planners and suppliers. $6,000 for an extension of funding for the Roy B. Evans Scholarship at the University of Alabama Convention & Meeting Management Program through 2007. “The PCMA Education Foundation is committed to supporting a wide range of PCMA education initiatives and providing grants to worthwhile projects conducted by other organizations in our profession,” says PCMA Education Foundation Director David LaBarre. “It is by far the largest set of grants awarded by our Foundation and reflects our leadership position in the industry.” The PCMA Education Foundation will award another set of grants in early 2006.
