Meeting Professionals International (MPI) announced the recipients of its 2004 Meeting Professional Awards, sponsored by Hilton Hotels, recognizing members who are models of professional excellence, significant contributors to the meetings industry, and active with MPI and civic organizations.

Paul Kennedy, MBE, of the United Kingdom, received the Marion N. Kershner Memorial Chapter Leader award, for his ability to motivates others, stimulate volunteer functions and act as a catalyst to cause exceptional results. He is the only MPI member to win both the Marion N. Kershner Memorial Chapter Leader and Tomorrow’s Leader awards.

Kennedy, director of his own meetings industry consultancy, and recently managing director of the Commonwealth Conference & Events Centre in London, has been honored for his positive influence and commitment to the MPI United Kingdom Chapter, and continuous leadership, dedication to the industry and participation within MPI.

A past president of the UK chapter, Kennedy is active on chapter committees and served six consecutive years on the chapter board. He has provided pivotal leadership for the chapter in its move to a strategic position as a national body in the UK meetings industry and led the process to build its member base culminating in receiving MPI’s Chapter of the Year Award for 2002-2003, the year Kennedy was Chapter president.

His most notable accomplishments include being conferred with the MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) by HM Queen Elizabeth II, being voted UK Meetings and Incentive Travel Industry Personality of the Year 2001, and being the first European to win an MPI international award when voted MPI Leader of Tomorrow 2000. Kennedy is a member of MPI’s 2004-2005 International Board of Directors.

Other awards presented during the 2004 World Education Congress (25-27 July in Denver) were presented to Elizabeth Zielinski, CMP, CMM, International Planner of the Year; Hattie Hill, International Supplier of the Year; and Erin Tench, CMP, Tomorrow’s Leaders award.
