Cheer for your favorite horse at the Kentucky Derby or the Preakness, play golf with a rock star, drive a race car at Indy, take a trip to Tahiti, sail to exotic destinations on a luxury cruise, fly business class to London . . . . these are the things dreams are made of . . . but now they are in reach, thanks to Dream Auction 2006, with the proceeds benefiting those in need.

Led by Destination Marketing Association International Foundation, several hospitality organizations have created the online “Dream Auction 2006” in a collaborative effort to help raise money for tourism-related hurricane relief charities.

With generous support from the industry, the auction’s sponsors felt compelled to help their friends and colleagues in the storm-ravaged areas left behind by Hurricanes Rita and Katrina.

The online auction is open for bids now by visiting http://dreamauction2006.cmarket.com. The auction closes at 5 p.m. (EDT) February 16, 2006.  Winning bids will be divided evenly between three established charities or the purchaser can designate a single fund recipient:

Hospitality Industry Relief Fund

Sponsored by the PCMA Foundation, this fund is providing disaster relief to hospitality and meetings industry employees affected by the 2005 hurricane season.

New Orleans Tourism Rebirth Fund

This fund is working toward the reconstruction and rebuilding of the tourism infrastructure and operations in New Orleans.

Build Back Our Coast Fund (Mississippi Gulf Coast)

This fund is aiding the economic recovery, rebuilding efforts and job regeneration in the coastal region.

The auction sponsors are: Destination Marketing Association International, Professional Convention Management Association, the Society of Incentive & Travel Executives, and USAE Custom News.

“We hope to raise significant funds for our friends on the Gulf Coast and believe that our ‘Dream Auction’ will go far in helping rebuild the dreams of so many who lost so much as a result of the hurricanes,” remarked H. Cris Collie, Destination Marketing Association International Foundation Chairman.  “We urge everyone to go to the Web site and bid high!” he added.
