One of Britain's longest-established travel marketing companies, AXIS, has appointed David Rose to the new role of joint managing director with immediate effect.

David joins the consultancy's senior management team, including company founder Clemencia Cardozo Wiese, where he will be responsible for developing new business opportunities - especially in the North American and Asian markets. His 20 years experience in marketing communications will also enable David to strengthen AXIS' public relations team.

Formerly managing director of McCluskey and Associates International, David launched the company's travel trade representation division and helped expand the company's client list to more than 30 government and private travel organizations.

Before returning to the UK in 2001 David held a number of senior positions in the Australian travel and trade sector, including roles with Tourism New South Wales, Tourism Tasmania and the Australian Trade Commission.

In the UK, David was head of European public relations and promotions for six years with Northwest Airlines, and before that, held various roles as a journalist with regional newspapers and radio.

Ms. Cardozo Wiese said: "We're delighted that David is joining the AXIS team. He brings a wealth of travel trade marketing and public relations experience, and has very clear ideas on how our clients can really succeed in the UK-market.

"David feels passionately that travel marketing must be effective and professional. He shares with me a dedication to excellence and understands what clients want - and need. Together we will be taking a very 'hands-on' approach"

David added: "Although AXIS is a very long-established company with a reputation for client service that goes back nearly two decades, it is very forward thinking. In today's rapidly evolving tourism environment, travel marketers have to work harder and smarter than ever before.

"AXIS has always been a leader in this sector, and it will be satisfying working with colleagues who believe as strongly in delivering results as I do."
