The Convention Industry Council (CIC) approved the International Association of Protocol Consultants (IAPC) as its newest member organization at its board of directors meeting on October 6, 2005.

CIC’s 31 member organizations now expand to represent more than 100,000 individuals as well as 16,500 firms and properties involved in the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry, due to the recent addition of IAPC as well as the National Business Travel Association (NBTA) in March of 2005.

“As the meeting industry becomes more global, the emphasis on protocol for all programs is growing,” commented Mary E. Power, CAE, President and CEO of CIC. “IAPC’s membership in CIC supports our aim of improving the professionalism of our overall industry.” 

Since 2002, IAPC has dedicated its work to advancing the practice of protocol, etiquette and civility worldwide by providing members with higher learning opportunities, ethical and professional standards, facilitating exchange of information, and encouraging an inclusive community for all professionals. It contributes directly to the international cross-cultural understanding necessary for global expansions.

And as CIC’s newest member organization, it will support and encourage the Certified Meeting Planner (CMP), Accepted Practices Exchange (APEX), Global Expansion and all CIC programs through members and all forms of communication and education.

IAPC members include: special event planners, meeting professionals, corporate/international executives, protocol consultants, diplomatic/government protocol officers, etiquette teachers, medical professionals, attorneys/legal counselors, and entrepreneurs.

A meeting of the CIC board of directors is held twice each year, typically in March and October. Those interested in applying for membership with CIC can view the membership application by visiting the CIC website. Interested organizations should be sure to review all qualifications for membership prior to submitting the application. Completed applications, including all required back-up documentation must be submitted to CIC at least thirty days prior to the board of directors meeting.
