The 2000th member of Meeting Professionals International (MPI), in the EMEA region, has joined whilst attending EIBTM 2007 in Barcelona. Christoph Tessmar, Congress Manager for Sanofi Aventis joined the MPI Spain Chapter.

Christoph Tessmar organises 400 events per year for his company and has been in the events department for 15 years.

Christoph, who joined MPI on the recommendation of colleagues, said: "I look forward to networking with fellow professionals and gaining new ideas and learning about the latest trends in the industry."

MPI, the global meetings industry community, is committed to delivering success for its members by providing innovative knowledge and learning experiences, connecting people and ideas and creating rich marketplace opportunities.

Reaching 2000th member status reflects the global growth of the industry and confirms that meeting professionals realise MPI’s critical role within the meetings industry. MPI’s European growth rate has topped 20% in each of the last two years.

Joyce Dogniez, CMM, MPI Director of Operations EMEA comments, “We are delighted to have signed up the 2000th member of MPI in Europe at EIBTM 2007. The European chapters are becoming increasingly established with more industry professionals joining and reaping the benefits that an MPI membership offers. We expect numbers to carry on rising over the next few months as The European Meetings and Events Conference and other key initiatives take place in the region.”

MPI’s first European chapter was the Italia Chapter established in April 1991. MPI now has 11 chapters in 12 different European countries. The latest addition is the Spain Chapter, which was officially chartered on 27th of Feb 2006, and already counts 153 members. Their recruitment efforts have been very successful and the fast growing chapter has contributed to the 2000th member while MPI exhibits in their home country.

MPI has at the same time seen its student community grow at a rapid pace. Since July this year, its EMEA student community has increased by 38%. MPI encourages future meetings industry professionals to join the community to enhance their knowledge of the meetings industry and learn from their peers.

Didier Scaillet – MPI Vice-President of Global Development comments, “In a quickly evolving and rapidly globalizing economy, it is crucial for meeting professionals to be aware of the key changes taking place. The world is now a global marketplace offering them increased opportunities but also a fiercer competitive environment. With this new milestone in Europe, MPI demonstrates its commitment to provide each of its community members with the global connections and resources to ensure their success in the 21st century”.
