The International Academy of Exhibition Management has opened in Milan, Italy. The Academy will offer training to companies that use trade fairs as a marketing tool, as well as to young people who want to become qualified and in the rapidly growing trade show market.

The school will be sponsored by Fondazione Fiera Milano, a private foundation based in Milan that promotes the culture and values of trade. “Fondazione Fiera Milano is setting up a unique project,” said its president, Luigi Roth.

“With the construction of the new external exhibition center northwest of Milan, the modernization of its city site, and the creation of a permanent training center, Italy will have one of the largest and most complex exhibition systems in the world.”

Concentrating on ongoing training, the transfer of managerial skills, acceleration of the internationalization process of professionals, and the spread of the “trade-fair culture” in Europe the training program for the 2002-2003 period will focus on the following:

  • A master’s degree in exhibition marketing and management that will train a new class of managers who will immediately be operative and highly qualified to work in the various areas of the exhibition chain
  • A school for exhibition professions, devoted to training intermediate-level personnel -- hostesses, translators and interpreters, technicians and set-up staff -- who are specialized, up-to-date and competitive
  • Updated courses for small and medium-sized companies to teach them the benefits of participating in trade fairs, seminars, conventions and workshops
  • Ad hoc courses to be commissioned, also for emerging countries
