The popular resort destination of Torquay has re-joined The British Association of Conference Destinations (BACD) – one of the UK’s leading conference organisations.

Conference Torquay represents some 70 accommodation providers and 22 venues in the Torbay area which includes the towns of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. Included among the venues is Torquay’s purpose-built conference and exhibition venue - the Riviera International Conference Centre - which, since it opened in 1987, has successfully played host to many conferences including Liberal Democrat Spring Conventions, and conferences run by the British Medical Association and the Association of Chief Police Officers.

Barry Cole, managing director of the Riviera International Conference Centre and Conference Torquay, said: "Though we have only been an Affiliate Member of BACD in our capacity as a venue - The Riviera International Conference Centre - we are pleased to rejoin the association as Conference Torquay.

“There is no doubt that BACD is able to offer the support and professional expertise that can benefit bureaux, venues and destinations.  We feel that our membership will strengthen our position and put a popular resort destination back in the fold of BACD."

Commented Tony Rogers, BACD chief executive: “We are delighted to welcome Conference Torquay back into membership of BACD. They represent an important destination and their return to the BACD family means that we can now offer organisers one-stop access to all the significant locations, and venues, throughout the British Isles.”

Torquay is traditionally known as a destination for family holidays and short breaks. While it remains a favourite holiday destination, since the Riviera International Conference Centre was opened Torquay has become a serious contender for prestigious conferences and events.

The British Association of Conference Destinations (BACD) is the professional association representing all the major, and many of the smaller, conference destinations in the British Isles.  Founded in 1969, it now represents some 76 local authority conference desks and public/private sector convention bureaux in Britain, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and Channel Islands.
