Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) Chairman of the Board Gregg H. Talley, CAE, and President & CEO David Kushner, CAE, CMP, have jointly announced that Kushner’s contract will not be renewed. He is currently completing a three-year contract, and his tenure at PCMA will conclude on February 25, 2005.

Talley, president of Talley Management Group, said, “PCMA has made great strides during the past three years, and we thank David for all he has done to make this possible. PCMA is in a strong financial position today, and we have rolled out many successful new programs during the past three years. David helped us fulfill our previous strategic plan, and guided us through the completion of our recent planning process that positions PCMA well for the future.”

”I was hired to lead a turnaround for the association and strengthen its position as a leading organization in the meetings and convention industry,“ Kushner said. “Our staff has accomplished the goals that were set by the leadership when I was hired. I am proud of the successes that we have achieved. PCMA’s education programs are renowned in the industry and are the hallmark of the association. The recent PCMA annual meeting received excellent reviews and drew the highest attendance in several years. I understand PCMA’s decision and agree that this is a good time for PCMA to engage a new CEO.”

Kushner also serves as President of the PCMA Education Foundation. “I have always enjoyed working with philanthropic organizations, and the PCMA Education Foundation is vitally important to the success of the PCMA mission,” Kushner said. “As it enters its 20th anniversary year, the Foundation has a sound strategic direction, and an excellent relationship exists between the PCMA and Foundation boards.” The Foundation is currently funding a series of new education initiatives as well as several important research projects. In 2004, it launched a highly successful Partnership Summit fundraising event that links industry partners and meeting professionals.

Commenting on Kushner’s tenure at PCMA, Talley added, “David was a good fit for our association these past three years, and we appreciate his accomplishments.  Organizations evolve, and the needs of PCMA are changing. The Board feels this is an appropriate time for us to bring on a new leader as we embark on our new strategic plan.”
