The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) is producing, in Association with the ITMA, a one-day seminar entitled Purchasing Event Management Services.

The seminar, taking place in London on 4 May, has been designed for purchasing and procurement professionals who have little or no experience of buying event management services.

CIPS Conference Manager, Ann Parratt, said: “Procurement departments are increasingly being tasked with the challenge of working with their creative colleagues to achieve an effective balance of spend and communication. We are encouraging purchasing and supply professionals to attend this seminar with their colleagues from marketing, public affairs, HR, travel and facilities management, as well as representatives from their suppliers.”

The seminar will cover the scope of activities embraced by event management; the skills and knowledge that purchasers can contribute, and the relationship between purchasing, the internal marketing client and their suppliers.

Among the participating presenters will be Chris Clarke, Business Development Director, P&MM Travel, speaking on behalf of the ITMA.  He will discuss aspects of the pitching process and the marketing-purchasing- agency triangle. Other speakers include Iain Palfreman, Category Manager, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Peter Rand, Chairman RAND UK and Chris Birdsall, Procurement Manager, T-Mobile (UK) Ltd.

Said ITMA Executive Director Charles Robinson: “We have established a good relationship with CIPS and are delighted to be working with the Institute on what we hope will be the first of many projects”.

The Purchasing Event Management Services seminar is one of a series of CIPS seminars covering a range of marketing disciplines including advertising, media planning and print buying.
