ICC Durban Prepares For A Bumper INDABA 2007

With only ten days to go until the May 12 start of the sixteenth Indaba to be staged at the ICC Durban, the team is hard at work to ensure that this year’s event is a ‘golden’ one.

Indaba 2007 will take place at the ICC Durban from May 12 – 15.

The hosts, South African Tourism, view tourism as ‘a business… an industry more valuable than gold’ and it is this philosophy that has contributed towards Indaba becoming one of the three ‘must visit’ trade shows on the global travel trade calendar.

“The ICC Durban has been home to Indaba since 1992 and the Centre is deeply committed to continually improve and grow the event in conjunction with South African Tourism, Durban and the province of KwaZulu-Natal,” commented ICC chief executive officer, Mr Miller Matola.

“In 2002, we committed to enlarging the ICC’s facilities in order to accommodate and everexpanding Indaba. The 2003 Indaba was the first event to occupy ‘Hall 4,’ which represented phase 1 of our expansion programme and this year’s event will be the first Indaba to occupy the fully completed ICC Durban Arena Halls 5 & 6. We can now provide South African Tourism a total of 32 000 sq metres of covered space on one level for this premier event. This includes the existing ICC, the new ICC Durban Arena and the Durban Exhibition Centre, but excludes all the outdoor areas.”

The ICC Durban Arena has a strong landscape and environmental theme, incorporating the tropical outdoors, with the interior airy spaces. Durban’s warm climate brings huge advantages in that the open areas surrounding ICC lend themselves to outdoor use for exhibitions, beer gardens etc. And this year, we will have even more open plaza’s available for Indaba.

“Indaba delegates have become accustomed to conducting business in a relaxed environment during breakout sessions in the tropical courtyards and garden restaurants. The Indaba beach party and street parties have become favourites on Indaba delegates calendars’ and we are looking forward to putting together another exciting programme of events this year,” commented Mr Matola.
