The drive to encourage and reward exhibitors for ‘going green’ continues to gather pace at IMEX as the world-leading exhibition launches a new ‘Green Exhibitor Award’, in conjunction with the Green Meetings Industry Council, the Wuppertal Institute, Germany and Meeting Strategies Worldwide.

The Award will be made to a single exhibitor at Messe Frankfurt who is judged to have made the best and most quantified efforts to minimise the environmental impact of their attendance at the trade show.

All IMEX exhibitors are being encouraged to adopt good practices such as using low-energy lighting, buying local, organic food for hospitality purposes and joining carbon offset programmes to compensate for air travel pollution.

The new IMEX award recognises that many exhibiting companies want to lessen the environmental impact of exhibiting but that they also need an incentive to change their ways.

Entrants for the award will be judged against five criteria and will also face a 20 minute interview. The prize will be presented at the IMEX Gala Dinner and the winner’s profile will be widely featured in a worldwide IMEX marketing and publicity campaign.

Says Carina Bloom, IMEX Marketing and Operations Director, “There is a growing momentum towards doing ‘greener business’ in this industry. And it’s no coincidence that IMEX is based at Messe Frankfurt, where we’re in the hands of one of the most environmentally friendly exhibition centres in Europe.

“In launching this award we can demonstrate what can be done to make an exhibition stand greener and also encourage our exhibitors to explore what this means in practice.  It may take a while to catch on but IMEX is committed to pioneering new concepts and challenging outdated thinking and greener exhibiting for all plays a big part in that commitment.”

Nomination forms for the Green Exhibitor Award are available from Projects Manager, Dale Hudson, and all exhibitors are encouraged to apply.  “They don’t have to be doing things perfectly,” says Dale.  “We just want them to start with small, practical steps and take it from there.”
