The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) has been selected as the venue for ITU Telecom Asia 2002 from 2 to 7 December 2002. The announcement and signing ceremony took place at the ITU’s headquarters in Geneva on 3 May 2001.

 

The event will be hosted by the Government of the People’s Republic of China. Mr Cliff Wallace, HKCEC’s Managing Director said, “Having held ITU Telecom Asia 2000 here last year, we are genuinely pleased with this extraordinary honour and accomplishment in being awarded the event again.

 

To host such a premier international event twice in two years is a credit to the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong and the HKCEC. The HKCEC is committed to do our part in making this significant world telecommunications event another great success as was experienced last December.

 

“With an unrivalled telecommunications and transport infrastructure and the HKCEC, with its superb location and state-of-the-art convention and exhibition facilities, exhibition facilities, Hong Kong - the ‘Events Capital of Asia’ - is an ideal destination for hosting ITU Telecom Asia 2002, the regional ITU Telecom event in Asia held bi-annually.

 

The event will be using the entire complex of the HKCEC. The award-winning HKCEC is a premier venue renowned for hosting international conventions and exhibitions. Each year the Centre has hosted various large-scale IT and telecommunications events attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world.

 

To name a few, Hong Kong Information Infrastructure Exposition & Conference 2001 (22-25 Feb 2001; 130,000 visitors); The 17th International Computer Expo (24-27 May 2001; 100,000 expected visitors), Hong Kong International E-commerce 2001/e-Life 2001 (4-7 July 2001; 100,000 expected visitors); Digital World 2001 (2-5 Aug 2001; 80,000 expected visitors); IT Expo 2001 - 12th Asian Information Technology Exhibition (12-15 Sep 2001; 86,000 expected visitors), Software Exhibition 2001 (21-24 Nov 2001; 60,000 expected visitors)
