The AIPC Board of Directors met from December 1-2, 2004 at Le Corum Congress Centre in Montpellier, France at the site of the 2006 AIPC Annual Conference. With a full agenda including many key areas of AIPC activity, the following conclusions were reached;

1. Quality Standards: 


The Board has agreed to proceed with the development of a set of quality standard guidelines for member centres on the basis of well documented member interest in this area and a growing sense of the need for such standards in an increasingly competitive market. At the same time, the Board recognized the need for guidelines to be adaptable to the wide variety of facilities and circumstances represented in the membership, and the need to emphasize diversity as an important element of the meetings experience.

2. New AIPC Publications:

The Board has approved the development of two new publications to join the series of guidebooks already completed on Environmental Standards, Security for Congress Centres and Media Relations. The new publications will address two key topics; Economic Impact: Measurement and Application and Quality Standards for Congress Centres.

3. Industry Relations:

The Board approved a series of interactions with other industry organizations as a way of establishing better working relations and adding value to AIPC membership. Among the initiatives which will be proceeding are a continuing cooperative program with the International Association of Professional Congress Organizers) IAPCO, AIPC participation in the Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC) industry profile initiative "Meetings Mean Progress", reshaping of the World Council of Venue Management (WCVM) to an industry advocacy body for information exchange and maintaining contact with other industry associations such as IAAM, APECC and UFI in an effort to explore opportunities for joint benefits.

4. Trade Show Participation:

The Board endorsed the initiatives which have been increasing over the past several years to exploit the opportunities created by the major industry trade shows IMEX and EIBTM on the basis that they create educational and networking opportunities for members, build profile for the association and offer the opportunity for members to interact with their executive and staff. Specific activities will include an expanded  presence in the shows, involvement in educational activities such as seminars, workshops and hospitality events and creating new opportunities to put members in touch with potential clients.

5. Training and Education:

The T&E Task Force has been advancing a number of activities aimed at enhancing management excellence, including the development and staging of a security seminar, the evolution of the AIPC Excellence in Customer Service (ECS) program, shaping the Annual Conference educational program to more directly address AIPC educational priorities and developing criteria for speakers at the Annual Conference program to improve comprehension and participation for all delegates

6. Research:

Research Task Force activities endorsed by the Board included; completion and analysis of four member surveys over the past year, the commissioning of a new publication to present the results of research on the calculation and use of economic impact information and the exploration of potential for an annual "benchmarking  survey.

7. AIPC Apex Award 2005:

The Board endorsed a new strategy for the 2005 AIPC Apex Award as part of an ongoing evolution of this highly successful program and an effort to continue its ongoing credibility and is also examining the potential for this new system for use by AIPC members who do not currently have a client evaluation program on an ongoing basis.

8. Regional Status Reports:

Board members provided information on the state of the industry in their respective regions. In general, there was a sense of gradual business improvement in step with overall economic improvement worldwide, with some regions still experiencing sluggish performance and others reporting significant improvement and a number of area specific developments in terms of the construction of new facilities.
