One of the first ambassadors, University of Brighton's principal lecturer Dr Keith Perks, played a crucial role in bringing the European Marketing Association's 2007 conference to the city next May. Staged at the Brighton Centre the event will attract 600 delegates and contribute over £500,000 to the local economy. Dr. Keith Perks, commented: "Hosting the EMAC conference is an important opportunity for the University and the City of Brighton. It gives us the opportunity to stage a prestigious conference and to attract more academic conferences in the future. The European Marketing Academy Conference is the leading marketing academic conference in Europe established in 1972, and the University of Brighton will host the 37th conference. VisitBrighton's Ambassador programme has been invaluable in assisting the team in their bid and presentation to the EMAC committee. Based on our experiences to date we highly recommend this service to anyone thinking of hosting a conference in Brighton in the future." The Ambassador programme has been set up in order to encourage, motivate and support leading members of the academic, medical and professional communities to play a key role in bringing an additional £2million worth of national and international association conferences to Brighton each year. VisitBrighton will help Ambassadors with impartial advice on all aspects of organising conferences; from bid documentation preparation and presentation, venue sourcing, proposals for tours and social programmes, site inspection hosting, accommodation and delegate information. The programme also offers members access to exclusive ambassador events in and around Brighton to network, gain an insight into what's new in the city and to meet other Brighton Ambassadors in order to share best practice. The announcement was made at an exclusive event on Thursday 30th November 2006 at Brighton's magnificent Georgian stately home, Stanmer House. The event was attended by VIPs from academia, medicine and business from The University of Sussex, The University of Brighton, Brighton and Sussex Medical School, local council, Business and Sussex Enterprise. There were presentations from VisitBrighton's Julia Gallagher, head of tourism Adam Bates and Dr Keith Perks.
