Following the announcement of the 44th ICCA Congress & Exhibition in Montevideo, Uruguay, the Presidency of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay has officially declared the event of National Interest.

In an official statement drafted by the President’s office carrying his signature and those of the Education Minister, Tourism Minister and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, it has been announced that the ICCA Congress as a “professional and technical event is of interest to the current administration and the wider Republic.”

"This recognition is significant as it has long been a battle in the meetings industry to educate and inform local governments about the value of business tourism. Establishing a country or city as a top congress destination brings local jobs and opportunities, local social and economic growth, exposure to local tourism products, year round business, and a showcase for local industries and expertise.", stated Martin Sirk, ICCA CEO.

The event in Montevideo takes place from the 6th to 9th November 2005 with a strong educational programme.

This year’s event underlines ICCA’s position as the business-oriented association for the industry. With 3 education tracks: “Trends – Business Environment” gives high-level perspectives on issues that ICCA members should build into their strategic planning; “Trends – Clients” sessions focus on ICCA’s traditional strength in international association meetings, but also cover all segments for Latin America; and “Marketing and Selling” gives fresh insights that will aid members in further developing their existing expertise in these areas.
