After years of planning, the new and improved San Diego Convention Center is preparing to open its doors. Although the public opening isn't for another two weeks, the center is already being used. Different groups are reportedly eager to try out the new facility, which includes a new ballroom.

"We've had clients in the building already, and have over 240 events booked into the expansion as far as 2022," Gayle Falkenthal of the San Diego Convention Center said. The expansion also gives the center a lot of flexibility that it didn't have before. One of the differences between the old convention center and the new one is that it can be easily altered to accommodate large or small gatherings. Conventions booked so far into just the expansion alone will generate an estimated $1.5 billion.
