The Dubai Convention Bureau (DCB), affiliated to the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), is forging ahead rapidly by participating in major events in line with its vision to making Dubai as a destination of choice for conventions.

The DCB is currently participating in the annual BestCities.net workshops being held until October 24 and the ICCA Congress & Exhibition from October 24 to 27. Both the events are being held in Cape Town, South Africa.

BestCities.net, the first global alliance of convention bureaus, was launched in 2000 and the DCB, which is affiliated to the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), has been a member of BestCities.net since February 2003.

The BestCities.net were attended by eight BestCities.net bureaus from around the world including Scotland, Australia, Singapore, Canada, Denmark, South Africa, Peurto Rico and the UAE.

The UAE bureau was represented by DCB Director Mr. Awadh Al Seghayer who provided an update of the major issues in his bureau.

The meeting also had a general debate on challenges, trends and major issues for convention bureaus' relationships with stakeholders and other industry organisations with a focus on organisational matters.

An overview was also provided on the major programmes for 2005 followed by a discussion on programmes, goals and KPI measurement wherein individual responsibilities were assigned to the members.

In addition, there were round table discussions on BestCities.net core attributes and brand promise. The workshops concluded with a review of the meeting's accomplishments and areas of improvement, as well as key action items including future Operations Group meetings.

Meanwhile, the DCB is currently participating in the 8th ICCA Congress & 43rd General Assembly in which more than 600 industry decision makers from around the world are participating.

The DCB is sponsoring a two-night stay at one of Dubai's luxurious 5-star property during the ICCA Silent Auction which provides education opportunities for young meetings professionals. The prizes are auctioned during the ICCA Congress with bidding taking place during the exhibition which runs concurrent with the annual Congress.
