Carroll R. Armstrong, a 26-year veteran of the convention and meetings industry, has joined ConventionPlanit.com as director of new business development.

In this role, Armstrong will focus on building business in the CVB and convention center sectors, creating marketing packages for these organizations to gain extensive visibility on this industry Web portal.

Armstrong began his career in 1978 as a member of the original team of the Baltimore Convention Bureau. He went on to a national sales position with the Washington, DC, Convention and Visitors Association, and then became director of sales and marketing for the New Orleans Convention Center.

In 1987, he was recruited by the San Diego Convention Center Corporation to lead the marketing department, where he built a new program and increased revenues for the Center. In 1996, he became president and CEO of the Baltimore Area Convention and Visitors Association, before joining ConventionPlanit.com.

"Carroll is so well-known and respected in the industry that he is a real asset to our team in the important CVB and convention center arena," explains ConventionPlanit.com Chief Operating Officer David Markham. "We are delighted to work with him."

Armstrong adds, "ConventionPlanit.com represents the true cutting edge of online search capabilities in the meetings industry. I am excited about promoting the site because I really believe in it and have seen firsthand how planners benefit from it."
