Culinary And Wine Entertainment Breaks New Ground

Wine Entertainment Resources teaches clients to "Think Outside the Box.and Inside the Glass" with unique interactive food and wine experiences.

The New England Wine School, now in its second year, has responded to the needs of the Corporate market with the creation of Wine Entertainment Resources.

Through this division, co-owners Debra and Steve Krohn have taken their most popular food and wine programs on the road.

Custom events include culinary teambuilding, ice breakers, blind wine challenges, interactive games and educational wine dinners. Several programs are well suited to pre or post dinner events, including regional wine with artisan cheeses and wine with gourmet chocolates.

The most requested program is The Passport to the World of Wine for networking "cocktail hours". This includes a passport sized booklet for each individual and a series of wine stations staffed by wine professionals.

The booklet's final page features a photo of each wine label, which is 'stamped' after the client tastes the particular wine. This trademarked program has been successful with groups ranging in size from 30 to 100.

The most exciting program according to Debra, is their partnership with McGrath Clambakes and Newport Vineyards. "We have created the ultimate interactive culinary and wine program."

Participants learn the art of the traditional New England Clam Bake from the best in his field TR McGrath, who has been featured on the Travel Channel, Food Network, Food Nation with Bobby Flay and the Discovery Channel. In traditional team building fashion, participants prepare the fire, shuck the corn and/or assist in other culinary hands-on opportunities.

They then join Debra and Steve for a winery tour which includes a session with the wine maker or vineyard manager. A private tent set among vineyard rows becomes the setting for the next phase of the program. Teams are taught the basics of wine tasting, compete in blind wine challenges and learn the art of pairing wine with food. Now it's time to return to the "pit."

The opening of the clambake is announced with the ringing of the bell. Guests are invited out of the tent to see layers of canvas peeled away from the pile they've seen steaming on the ground the last few hours. A succulent, smoky aroma fills the air as bright, red lobsters and other treats are unveiled.

Wines are paired to compliment the feast while all indulge and celebrate the culmination of a great day. This program is popular for corporate and leisure groups alike and is available for 10-29 people, lasting approximately 5 hours.

Wine Entertainment Resources travels throughout the U.S. and utilizes the selected venue's food and wine list. Their programs 'keep guests on property' and help bolster F&B. They are comfortable with any size group, from an intimate group of 10 to over 200. The level of education and entertainment is customized to meet the needs and budget of the group.

Current clients include AIWF, Amgen, American Culinary Federation, Crystal Cruise Lines, Courrier, John Hancock, Kenney, Morgan Stanley, Pharmacare, US Council on Taxation, Whole Foods & Yankee Magazine.
