Cancun Moves Forward To Get Cancun Back On Its Feet

The Cancun's Hotel and Motel Association in coordination with the Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) continues to tour the hotel zone and interviewed hotel owners, executives, managers and employees.

 

Following is an update on the city's progress:

 

23,534 of the 27,822 hotel rooms available in Cancun have been checked and assessed for damage.

 

It is estimated that:

 

  • By November 4, a total of 5,000 rooms in the hotel zone and in downtown Cancun will open to tourists
  • By November 25:  7,535 rooms will be available
  • By December 15: 15,000 rooms will be available
  • By December 23: 16,000 rooms will be available
  • By January 15: 20,300 rooms will be available

It is estimated that only 2,600 of the 36,000 tourists who were in Cancun prior to hurricane Wilma are still there; those remaining are expected to return home in less than 48 hours

 

The Cancun Convention and Exhibitions Center will resume normal operations on November 8, 2005.

 

The Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) will continue to provide ongoing updates as soon as new information is available and will begin uploading new information to their website.
