For the first time in its history, the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) will hold one event which will bring together its twelve national sub-groups that include physiotherapists from the areas of Sport, Neurology, Continence and Women’s Health.

In October 2007, over 1000 delegates will meet at the Cairns Convention Centre for the week long conference that is already being billed as the biggest educational event for physiotherapists ever held in Australia, an event that will bring over AUD4 .5 million to the Cairns economy.

With approximately 11,000 members, the Melbourne based APA is the peak body representing the interests of Australian physiotherapists and their patients. Manager for APA Professional Development & Specialisation, Phil Hart said Cairns was chosen as the venue for the inaugural APA Conference Week for a number of reasons.

"The Cairns Convention Centre is ideal for the high number of delegates we are expecting. The facilities are just perfect for hosting multiple sessions of varying sizes at any one time", Mr Hart said.

"The proximity to a range of accommodation options all within walking distance is also very attractive to our members, as is the proximity and accessibility of Cairns to the major population centres in Asia for us".

"By choosing to hold Conference Week in Cairns we know we will deliver a cost effective, high quality event.  The further attraction of a holiday in the region makes the Conference Week in Cairns a great incentive for delegates from all over Australia and Asia", Mr Hart said.
