Business Visitors To London From North America Hit Record Numbers

Business visitors to London from the United States and Canada are at record numbers, with nearly 1 million visits in 2006, the highest they have been since 2000.

With more than 6,000 restaurants, 750 major attractions, and 75 percent of the world’s top 500 companies maintaining an office in London, it’s no wonder why the UK’s capital city continues to play host to top executives from the US and Canada.

London has been voted Europe’s best city for business for 16 consecutive years by the European Cities Monitor.

London is also proud to be hosting its first Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Professional Education Conference - Europe on April 18-20, 2008.

The conference is MPI’s principal annual education event in Europe, traditionally attracting 500 meeting planners and suppliers. London was chosen as the host location for the conference for the frequency of international flights in and out of the city, and the easy accessibility that London offers from anywhere in the world.

The event is expected to draw record attendance. The MPI conference will be held at ExCeL London, the largest convention center in the city. Since opening in 2000, ExCeL London has hosted over 2,000 events and welcomed over 4 million visitors from more than 200 different countries.

Welcoming the latest figures on business visitors, Visit London North American Sales and Marketing Director, Chris Lynn, said: “London remains the best city in Europe for business and the latest business visitor numbers from 2006 confirm this. London is a natural meeting point for the world’s business networks, and is a leading city for hosting meetings, conferences, and exhibitions. With the impressive and numerous venues on offer, exhibition organizers and their visitors love London for its accessibility, social venues, and wide range of accommodation. We will continue to serve as host for the world’s most important conferences, meetings, and exhibitions.”
