VisitBritain representatives from around the world will be meeting in NewcastleGateshead this week to address the value and importance of the Business Visits and Events sector to the visitor economy.

Latest VisitBritain figures show nearly 31 million international and domestic business travellers spend £9.3 billion in this country every year.

The group work mainly on marketing Britain as destination for conferences and events but the team also targets the travel trade and work with the world’s press.

Delegates for business visits and events typically spend £142 per day - more than twice as much as holiday-makers - representing 25% of total spending on overnight visits.

Joss Croft, general manager of business visits and events at VisitBritain, said:

"Winning the Olympic Games for 2012 has brought Britain into the spotlight of the world's business event organisers and planners and this week VisitBritain's specialist advisors are meeting in NewcastleGateshead to discuss how we can take full advantage. With NewcastleGateshead's increasing reputation as a business destination, our visit will enable us to discover its appeals for ourselves and help us spread the word around the world."

The group also has representatives from meetEngland, the team responsible for promoting the Business Visits and Events tourism sector domestically from VisitBritain’s England Marketing division.

MeetEngland have recently produced Business Pursuits England, a brochure aimed at UK audiences and promoting teambuilding activities and destinations spanning the length and breadth of England.

LIFE conference centre, BALTIC and Matfen Hall are among those promoted for those looking for the perfect teambuilding venue.
