The Bull & Finch pub was the inspiration for the television show ``Cheers,'' but fans who visit the Beacon Hill bar often are disappointed when they find that the inside looks nothing like the place where Norm Peterson and Cliff Clavin hung out.

That's why Bull & Finch owner Tom Kershaw is building an exact replica of the ``Cheers'' set, which will include Sam Malone's Red Sox jacket and Cliff's mail carrier uniform. The two-story restaurant with two bars will open next week at Faneuil Hall. Some locals are upset with Kershaw's decision to expand his franchise.

They say that the Bull & Finch is a local landmark. ``Whenever you create a bar to resemble a television set that was inspired by a Boston landmark, that's too commercial,'' Bart Payton, a Bull & Finch regular, told The Boston Globe. Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau President Pat Moscaratolo said the decision to build a second ``Cheers'' could be a tourism boost. ``People want a place that looks like what they saw on television for 11 years,'' he said.

``If it doesn't look like it, they don't like it. It proves the power of television.'' The Bull & Finch is one of the city's most popular attractions, and draws more than 900,000 visitors each year. Faneuil Hall attracts 13 million visitors a year. The cable channel Nickelodeon has said it plans to run digitally remastered episodes of the sitcom, beginning with the first episode and concluding with the 90-minute finale. ``Cheers'' aired on NBC from 1982-93.
