The Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre (SECC) has promoted Ben Goedegbuure to director of sales, where he will take full control and responsibility for the exhibition, conference and event sales departments.

Ben, who joined the SECC in 2005 as director of conference sales, has achieved continuous growth for the conference sector and this position has been created to allow him to emulate this success in all sectors of the business.

Speaking about Ben’s promotion, Mike Closier, group chief executive of the SECC, said: “It is an exiting time for the SECC; we will soon begin work on our new 12,500-seat Arena and we are an integral part of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014.

“It’s therefore essential that we are at the top of our game and I am delighted that we have Ben onboard to help us achieve this. His track record in the conference sector speaks for itself and I’m confident that he will do the same for all sales departments in our company.”

Ben said: “I firmly believe the SECC is one of the finest venues in the world and I’m honoured and excited to be given the opportunity to take the sales side of our business forward. We pride ourselves in our first-class service and our team effort, which is now better than ever before. We look forward to bringing more conferences, exhibitions and events to the SECC and Glasgow. ”

In the last financial year, turnover in the conference sector increased by 42% and gross profit grew by 44% under Ben’s leadership. The conference sector accounted for 35% of the total SECC turnover, which was £15.7 million.
