Expomedia Group PLC has announced the official opening, on schedule, of the EXPO XXI Cologne International Expocentre.

The official opening ceremony will take place on the evening of Thursday 9th June 2005 at 19.00, at the venue, in the presence of several hundred guests including the Mayor of Cologne, Josef Müller, the City Director, Peter Michael Soénius, other VIP city officials and event industry figures. The venue has already attracted a large amount of interest with confirmed events from Tarsus, Euroforum/Informa, ArtFair Cologne and other events supported by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour and the EU Commission amongst others.

EXPO XXI Cologne is the latest venue in the EXPO XXI International Expocentres chain of state-of-the-art events centres to open this year.

It is situated in the heart of Cologne, itself a city surrounded by 20 million inhabitants within a 60 km radius and served by two international airports, 10 interstate motorways and more than 1,200 trains entering and leaving the city every day.

The venue itself covers 8,000m² and offers a 4,000m² exhibition hall, an 800m² conference centre and a 1,000m² Event-Loft in the basement of the venue, providing excellent facilities for a wide range of events catering for smaller corporate meetings, niche exhibitions or congresses with up to 3,800 delegates.

All the event spaces are fully flexible and equipped with the latest technology and the venue offers a full range of support services to organisers.

Mark Shashoua, Expomedia CEO comments “We are delighted to announce the official opening of EXPO XXI Cologne, which follows the opening of EXPO XXI Amsterdam on 26th May. EXPO XXI Cologne provides the perfect space for a wide range of small to mid sized events in an historical and stylish building. The strong level of bookings and interest in the venue has been very encouraging and demonstrates the real need in the market for a state-of-the-art venue that is flexible and multi-functional and that can be tailored so suit organiser requirements.”
