The Algarve Convention Bureau has been established to develop business tourism in the area.

The bureau's goals are to promote the region as a destination that is ideal for holding conventions, conferences, fairs and exhibitions, and to boost the region's image both within the country and internationally.

One specific project, which is being developed, is the Arade Pavilion near the mouth of the River Arade opposite Portimão in western Algarve. Involving an investment in excess of €15m and financed by private and public bodies such as the Algarve Tourist Board and local municipalities together with European Union funding, this conference and exhibition complex will be completed in late 2004 and have a main hall capacity of some 1,100 attendees.
