Alan I. Rothenberg, a well known litigator in Southern California who is presently a full-time neutral mediating and arbitrating disputes, has been elected Chairman of the 2001-2002 Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Convention & Visitors Bureau.

 

As Chairman, Mr. Rothenberg will direct and oversee a board of prominent travel industry and local business leaders who govern the operations of the Bureau.

Kirkland, president and CEO of the Los Angeles Convention & Visitors Bureau. ``We are delighted to have someone with his skills lead our board.''

 

Presently, Rothenberg is affiliated with ADR Services in Century City. In 1990 he joined the law firm of Latham & Watkins after having been a name partner at Manatt, Phelps, Rothenberg & Phillips for more than 20 years.

 

His legal practice has involved matters drawn from the banking, business, sports and entertainment fields. Additionally, Rothenberg has long been active in sports, legal and community service. He was chairman of the board of the 1994 World Cup Organizing Committee that staged the historic and successful 1994 World Cup and president of the United States Soccer Federation.

 

He is the founder of Major League Soccer and has acted as Soccer Commissioner for the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee and a member of the board of directors of the North American Soccer League.

 

Rothenberg is past president and chairman of the Music Center's Fraternity of Friends, served on the Board of Governors of the Music Center, is a member and former president of the Constitutional Rights Foundation, and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the California Museums of Science and Industry.

 

He belongs to the Sinai Temple and served as chairman of California Sports for Israel (Maccabiah Games) and the Israel Bonds Dinner, honoring the Israeli Olympic team in 1984. In the legal community, among others Rothenberg has served as president and member of the Board of Governors of the State Bar of California and as a member of the Board of the Los Angeles County Bar Foundation.

 

He also was the founder of the Foundation of the State Bar of California and currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for The Dispute Resolution Services, Inc. Board of Directors of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

 

He served as an instructor at the University of Southern California Industry Studies Program and Whittier Law School. He has spoken before numerous bar associations and schools including Brown University, Notre Dame University, Pepperdine University, Santa Clara University, UCLA, University of San Diego, USC and Yale Law School.
