The 15th International Travel Expo (ITE HK 2001), jointly organised by Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd and International Travel Expo Hong Kong Ltd, was staged at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) from 7 to 10 June 2001 with astounding success.

 

As an effective channel for travel professionals to boost their business network and an informative and entertaining event for the public, the expo attracted 6,305 trade buyers and visitors plus 52,505 public visitors. The total attendance had increased over 5.3% when compared to last year.

 

Building on a strong track record, the show successfully presented 400 exhibitors from 45 countries and regions and attracted 41 national tourism organisations (NTO). Numerous worldwide anchor exhibitors such as China National Tourism Administration (CNTA), NTOs from Malaysia, Bahrain, Thailand, Philippines, Taiwan and Japan continued to show their keen support this year.

 

All these official pavilions increased their booth size over last year, with CNTA, again, possessing the biggest pavilion among all.

 

13 new exhibitors participated for the first time, including national/regional tourism organisations from Brunei, Poland, Finland, Switzerland, Germany, India, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Chicago, Montana, Idaho and Canada. The expo provided them with valuable opportunities to make strategic move to China and Asia markets.

 

In addition, adventure specialists, theme parks, travel agents, hotels, airlines, information reservation system, transportation specialists and trade publications also took part in the event.

 

Various themes of concurrent seminars were held to cater for different needs. Outbound Travel Seminars, Buyers Meet Sellers sessions and symposiums were scheduled for industry professionals to foster business communications and information exchange.

 

Market players interested in entering the booming China market found the “Expertise Tips on the Potential and Enormous Chinese Outbound Market” presentation useful. Corporate Travel Seminar focusing on IT and corporate travel was arranged for corporate users. The next edition of the ITE 2002 is scheduled to come back to HKCEC from 30 May to 2 June
